PETA asked Steve Schwab, president of the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center, to cancel a planned "training" exercise on Thursday in which live pigs will be "dismembered and killed," PETA officials said. The exercise is planned to be conducted jointly at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center School of Medicine and LIFE FORCE Medical of the regional emergency medical evacuation company Erlanger Health System. PETA also requires the Minister of Finance to use only animal-free human simulators in the future.

According to reports, the pig program attempts to teach intensive care procedures for human patients who need to be transported to a medical facility. The course leader performed many procedures on the pig, including inducing lung collapse, cutting into the artery to cause bleeding, and splitting the ribs if the pig's resuscitation failed. An inside source told the Organization for the Treatment of Animals that at least one pig died this year due to a medical error when the chest tube was inserted. Kill the pigs that survived the procedure at the end of the procedure. PETA officials said that all of these procedures can be performed on a simulator that accurately simulates the human body.

Shalin Gala, vice president of PETA, said: “Smart and sensitive pigs are mutilated and killed because of brutal training exercises, and these trainings can be better taught using human-related simulation models.” “PETA calls on the University of Tennessee Health Sciences LIFE FORCE Air Medical of the Central Medical School and Erlanger Health System uses superior non-animal technology to save pigs’ lives and allows trainees to perform invasive surgery until they are confident and skilled."
