Bristol police were searching for a dog that was shot by an officer during an attack on a victim.

BRISTOL — Police captured a loose dog that had prompted a complaint and took it to a veterinarian for care Saturday, according to the department.

Police had been looking for a medium-size pit bull that reportedly attacked a person on French Street and then ran after it was shot by an officer on Friday, police said.

Officers responded to Morningside Drive “for a complaint of a roaming animal” at about 6 a.m. Saturday, police posted on Facebook.

The animal, a dog, had been involved in an “attack” on the previous day, officials said.

“Officers were able to capture the dog. The dog was transported to a veterinary clinic for treatment,” police said.

An officer had been called to French Street on Friday to deal with a vicious dog complaint, Lt. Robert Osborne said Friday. But when the officer arrived, the dog was attacking a victim who required immediate action, reports said.

The officer shot the dog, which then took off, Osborne said. There was no information available on the severity of the victim’s injuries from the attack, he said. Police were actively looking for the dog, which they believed was injured in the shooting, Osborne said.
